NIACC falls to Western Iowa Tech, 3-0
SIOUX CITY - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Western Iowa Tech CC Wednesday night in an ICCAC matchup.
Western Iowa Tech (4-8 overall, 1-1 in the ICCAC) won 25-18, 25-15, 25-18.
"We expected to compete differently and have some growing pains to push through," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "We need to take this opportunity to learn and get better - intentionally working in practice to take that next step forward as a team."
NIACC (5-6, 0-2) was led by sophomore Jaida Hansen with 10 kills, five digs and four blocks. It was the second time this season that Hansen has recorded double digit kills as she recorded a season-high 11 kills against Minnesota West CTC on Aug. 26.
Freshman Emily Opstvedt had eight digs and seven assists and sophomore Alyssa Wickersheim had four kills, seven digs and one block.
Also for the Trojans, Abbie Hyde had nine digs, Kennedy Schwiesow had 13 digs and one ace serve, Alicia Machacek had one kills and two blocks and Ellie Hanna had four kills and one block.
NIACC's Iwalani Beltran had 13 assists, eight digs and two kills, Kit Byars had three kills, two ace serves, three digs and six blocks and Zhane Singer had two kills, two digs and two blocks.
NIACC returns to action Friday and Saturday at the RCTC Tournament in Rochester, Minn. On Friday, the Trojans play Ellsworth at 5 p.m. and Harper College at 7 p.m.
"We get to have another day of practice," Brandt said, "and then we travel to Rochester for another tournament."
