NIACC falls to DMACC, 3-0
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to DMACC Wednesday evening in an ICCAC match in the Mason City gym.
DMACC (6-2 overall, 1-0) won 25-10, 25-8, 28-26.
"We definitely didn't open the night like we planned," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "The nerves were evident and hard to shake off against a team like DMACC.
"We are very proud of how they bounced back in the third set. The team adapted better and started playing together. We will use (Wednesday) as another learning experience and get back to work (Thursday)."
NIACC (4-5, 0-1) was led by sophomore Alyssa Wickersheim with five kills and nine digs. Sophomore Kennedy Schwiesow had 10 digs and Abbie Hyde had nine digs.
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Iwalani Beltran had 10 assists, six digs and one ace serve. Jaida Hansen had three kills, one dig and one block and Alicia Machacek had three kills and one block.
NIACC's Ellie Hanna had one kill and one block, Emily Opstvedt had five assists and two digs, Kit Byars had three digs and one kill and Zhane Singer had two kills and one block.
NIACC returns to action Friday at home against the Wartburg College Junior Varsity. The match, which will take place at Mason City High School, is slated to start at 7 p.m.
