NIACC women open with 77-64 win
MASON CITY - The NIACC women's basketball team opened its season with a 77-74 victory over No. 17 (NJCAA Division II) Friday at the Konigsmark Klassic.
NIACC's win over the rated Bobcats was the first win over a rated team by the Trojans since they topped No. 5 Iowa Western 61-56 on Feb. 18, 2023.
NIACC was led by freshman Keeley Steele with 23 points, including six 3-point goals. The six three-pointers by Steele was the most by a NIACC women's basketball player since Kelcie Hale made six against Kirkwood in the NJCAA Region 11 title game against Kirkwood on March 8, 2020.
NIACC trailed 25-14 after the first quarter but outscored the Bobcats 27-12 in the second quarter to take a 41-37 lead at the half.
Freshman Tori Miller came off the bench to score 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Trojans. It was the first double/double by a Trojan since Kourtney Manning had 14 points and 12 rebounds against South Suburban College on Dec. 30, 2022.
Also for the Trojans, Madison Hillman scored eight points and Alexis Schroeder scored seven points.
NIACC sophomore Keiara Anderson grabbed 11 rebounds, which matched her career-high.
NIACC returns to action Saturday at the Konigsmark Klassic with a 3 p.m. contest against Black Hawk College-Moline.
