NIACC falls to No. 5 DMACC, 3-0
BOONE - The No. 5 DMACC volleyball team stopped NIACC 3-0 in an ICCAC match Sunday afternoon.
DMACC (16-4 overall, 16-4 in the ICCAC) won 25-15, 25-19, 25-22.
"This team understands how to dig deep and pull themselves out of a hole," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said, "but when we are playing a top ranked team, it's hard to pull ahead enough to win to help that scoreboard result."
Freshman Grace Tobin led the Lady Trojans (8-9, 8-9) with nine kills, two ace serves, four digs and two blocks. Sophomore Becca Steffen recorded 24 assists with six kills, nine digs and one block.
NIACC's Bri Powers had 14 digs. Samantha Coron had three kills with 11 digs, Ilyanna Fillspipe had three ace serves, Emily Wittnebel had three ace serves and Megan Hollander had two kills,
Also for the Lady Trojans Halsie Keltner had six kills and Hannah Hanson had five kills and two digs.
"We found the grit and passion to push a little late in the match," Brandt said, "so we must learn and move on."
NIACC returns to action Tuesday at home against Southwestern in its regular season finale. The sophomore night match is slated to start at 7 p.m.
