
NIACC falls to No. 8 Hawkeye CC, 3-1
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 8 Hawkeye CC in ICCAC action Tuesday night in the NIACC gym.
Hawkeye CC (10-3 overall, 10-3 in the ICCAC) won 15-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-22.
"(Tuesday) didn't go the way we planned," NIACC coach Chris Brand said, "but luckily we get the opportunity to be together as a team tomorrow. Tomorrow we work, we learn, we push together."
Tuesday was the first night a limited number of fans were allowed in the gym this season for volleyball.
"It was absolutely a joy to see OUR fans in the stands," Brandt said. "Those are the priceless things that truly matter the most."
Freshman Grace Tobin led the Lady Trojans (6-5, 6-5) with 14 kills, 11 digs and three blocks. Sophomore Becca Steffen had 31 assists, 18 digs, three kills and three blocks.
NIACC's Bri Powers had nine digs and two assists, Samantha Coron had 11 kills, 19 digs and three assists, Emily Wittnebel had 12 digs and Halsie Keltner had seven kills and one block.
Also for the Lady Trojans, Emily Jacobson had five blocks and two digs and Hannah Hanson had four blocks, three kills, three digs and two assists.
NIACC returns to action Thursday night at home against No. 5 Iowa Central. Match time in the NIACC gym is slated for 7 p.m.
