NIACC falls to No. 4 Iowa Central
FORT DODGE - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 4 Iowa Central in an ICCAC match Tuesday night.
Iowa Central won 25-16, 25-19, 25-22.
"We started a little slow," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said, "as we struggled to keep the momentum and get into our groove.
"We did a very nice job battling through the chaos and although it wasn't the outcome we wanted, the team continued to work together and never gave up."
NIACC was led by freshman Grace Tobin with 13 kills, eight digs and two blocks. Sophomore Becca Steffen recorded 16 assists, 15 digs and eight kills.
Also for the Lady Trojans, Bri Powers had 13 digs and two assists, Samantha Coron had 10 assists, eight digs and two kills, Emily Wittnebel had 10 digs and Megan Hollander had four kills and one block. Emily Jacobson had four digs and two kills and Katelin Adams had three kills.
Tuesday was the first night that the ICCAC allowed a limited number of fans to attend sporting events.
That didn't go unnoticed by Brandt.
"Even though it wasn't our fans, it was awesome to have fans in the stands," the coach said. "The atmosphere just felt more normal and we look forward to getting some Trojans fans in the gym soon."
NIACC (4-4 overall, 4-4 in ICCAC) returns to action Feb. 24 at Ellsworth in an ICCAC contest.
