
No. 18 NIACC tops Iowa Lakes, 3-0
MASON CITY - The No. 18 NIACC volleyball team topped Iowa Lakes 3-0 in ICCAC action Wednesday night in the NIACC gym.
NIACC won 25-15, 25-14, 25-21.
"(Thursday) was a good opportunity to work on being a team who was willing to try new things and battle through when it didnt always work," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "It was also a good opportunity to get everyone some court time."
Freshman Grace Tobin led the Lady Trojans with 17 kills, 24 digs, four ace serves and two blocks.
Sophomore Becca Steffen collected 25 assists, seven digs, three kills, two ace serves and one block. Steffen now has 100 career ace serves, including 86 in her freshman season.
Steffen is the fifth player in school history with 100 career ace serves. Other Lady Trojans to collect 100 ace serves were Amy Ask (2001-02) with 136, Kennedy Meister (2018-19) with 117, Kelly Blunt (1998-99) with 114 and Kayla Baker (2009-10) with 113.
Also for the Lady Trojans, Bri Powers had 20 digs with four assists, Samantha Coron had seven digs and six assists, Emily Wittnebel had eight digs and Megan Hollander had five kills and three blocks. Katelin Adams had three kills and one block, Emily Jacobson had three kills and Hannah Hanson had five kills, two digs and two blocks.
NIACC (3-3 overall, 3-3 in the ICCAC) returns to action Sunday at Southeastern. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
