
NIACC's Steffen earns ICCAC POW honor
MASON CITY - NIACC sophomore Becca Steffen was selected as the ICCAC Division II offensive volleyball player of the week for the week of Jan. 25-31.
It is the second time Steffen has been honored as the league's player of the week. She also earned the league's top weekly honor as a freshman for the week of Oct. 7-13.
Steffen, a 5-foot-8 setter from Vinton, recorded 91 assists in two league matches against Hawkeye CC and Northeast CC. In the match against Hawkeye CC, Steffen recorded her 1,000th career assist to become 12th player in school history to reach the 1,000-assist mark.
Steffen also collected 26 digs, 17 kills and four ace serves in the two matches against rated foes.
Steffen leads the ICCAC Division II with 119 assists and 11 ace serves. She ranks 15th in the league with 38 digs and 24th with 22 kills.
The 119 assists ranks fourth in NJCAA Division II and the 11 ace serves is tied for second in NJCAA Division II.
No. 16 NIACC (2-1 overall, 2-1 in the ICCAC) returns to action Thursday at No. 9 Kirkwood (2-1, 2-1). Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
