NIACC tops Ellsworth, 3-2
IOWA FALLS - The NIACC volleyball team topped Ellsworth 3-2 in an ICCAC match Wednesday night.
NIACC won 25-20, 25-27, 25-20, 23-25, 15-9.
"We didn't get any style points for the win," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said, "but we were gritty and kept pushing to get the job done.
"We knew there would be some growing pains this season since we have a young team and after (Wednesday), they truly know the strength of the ICCAC conference is one of the most challenging in the nation."
NIACC (5-4 overall, 5-4 in the ICCAC) was led by freshman Grace Tobin with 22 kills, 17 digs, five blocks and four ace serves.
Sophomore Megan Hollander recorded nine blocks and four kills. Becca Steffen collected 34 assists, 14 digs, seven digs and six blocks.
Also for the Lady Trojans, Bri Powers had 10 digs, Samantha Coron had nine digs and two kills, Emily Wittnebel had six digs, Halsie Keltner had seven kills, eight digs, three assists and three blocks, Hannah Hanson had seven digs, five blocks and four kills and Emily Jacobson had two kills.
Ellsworth fell to 3-8 overall and 3-8 in the ICCAC
NIACC returns to action Saturday at Northeast CC (3-10, 2-9). Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
NIACC topped Northeast CC 3-2 on Jan. 28 in Mason City.
