NIACC's Ellis fares well in sprint events at regionals
COUNCIL BLUFFS - NIACC freshman Quinton Ellis earned three top seven finishes Sunday at the NJCAA Region 11 Track and Field Championships.
Ellis, who is from Nassau, Bahamas, placed third in the 400-meter dash in a time of 48.45 seconds. Ellis was also sixth in the 200 in a time of 21.85 and was seventh in the 100 in a time of 11.16.
NIACC freshman Terrence Thomas, who won the long jump on Saturday, placed fifth in the 100 (10.78) and was sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 46 feet, 10 3/4 inches (14.29 meters).
NIACC sophomore Parker McHone was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 58.64 and was ninth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.42).
In the 5,000-meter run, NIACC's Ryan Kelly was third in a time of 15:53.80 and Joey Ringo was seventh in 16:25.00.
In the hammer throw, the Trojans' Colby Krutsinger was eighth with a throw of 126-3 (38.50 meters) and Rodney Ngezimani was ninth with a toss of 119-3 (36.35 meters).
In the 4x400-meter relay, NIACC placed second in a time of 3:20.23 running Tyreese James, Jacob Vais, Bruce Huggins and Ellis.
In the 4x100, the Trojans placed fourth in a time of 42.94 running Thomas, James, Huggins and Ellis.
NIACC placed fifth with 60 team points. Iowa Western was the regional team champion with 309 points and Indian Hills was second with 161 points.
