
NIACC's Thomas wins 2 events
WAVERLY - NIACC's Terrence Thomas won two events Saturday at the Wartburg College Select meet.
Thomas, a freshman from Antigua and Barbuda, won the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 9 inches (7.24 meters) and won the triple jump with a jump of 46-6 3/4 (14.19 meters).
At the Emporia State Relays on March 28, Thomas set school records in in the long jump (7.39 meters) and triple jump (14.56) meters.
On Saturday, Thomas also placed sixth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.51 seconds.
Also for the Trojans Saturday, Quinton Ellis won the 400-meter dash in a time of 48.25. It is the second time this season that Ellis has broke 49 seconds in the 400 as he ran 48.16 at the Emporia State Relays, which ranks second on the school's all-time outdoor 400 list.
NIACC's Tyreese James was seventh in the 400 in a time of 50.55, which ranks sixth on the school's all-time outdoor 400 list.
James was second in the 100 in a time of 10.87 seconds. Ellis was fifth in the 100 (10.98), which ranks ninth on the school's all-time 100 list.
In the 5,000, NIACC's Ryan Kelly was fourth in a time of 16:10.52. Joey Ringo was eighth in 17:13.48.
In the high jump, the Trojans' Malaki Johnson-Bassey was fourth with a jump of 6-0 3/4 (1.85 meters).
In the discus, the Trojans' Rodney Ngezimani was sixth with a toss of 132-4 (40.35 meters) and was 10th in the shot put with a throw of 39-4 1/2 (12.00 meters).
In the long jump, NIACC's Parker McHone was 10th with a jump of 19-9 1/2 (6.03 meters).
