Thomas wins long jump at Jim Duncan Invite
DES MOINES - NIACC freshman Terrence Thomas won the long jump Friday at the Jim Duncan Invitational with a school record jump of 7.40 meters (24 feet, 3 1/2 inches).
Thomas broke his own school mark of 7.39 meters (24-3) at the Emporia State Relays on March 28.
Thomas also placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 46-6 1/4 (14.18 meters).
NIACC's Quinton Ellis placed second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 48.90 seconds. Indian Hills' Terrick Johnson won the event in 48.65.
Ellis also placed eighth in the 200 in a time of 22.05. Indian Hills' Traunard Folson was the 200-meter champion in 20.45.
NIACC's Tyreese James was 10th in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.87. Indian Hills' Stephen Brown won the event in 10.43.
NIACC was fifth in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:21.44. The Trojans ran Ellis, Bruce Huggins, Jacob Vais and James.
In the 1,500, NIACC sophomore Bryson Canton placed 21st in a season-best time of 4:10.60.
In the 5,000, the Trojans' Ryan Kelly was 25th in a time of 16:39.56.
