James earns 2 top-8 finishes at Ted Nelson Classic

• James places 2nd in 60, 8th in 400
• Almelien places 2nd in 5,000
• Massa places 3rd in 600

MANKATO, Minn. - NIACC freshman Tyreese James earned two top-eight finishes Saturday at the Minnesota State-Mankato Ted Nelson Classic.

James placed second in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.01 seconds. He was also eighth in the 400 in a time of 52.31.

NIACC freshman Owen Almelien placed second in the 5,000 in a time of 15:53.58.

Also for the Trojans, Hugo Massa placed third in the 600 (1:23.36), Bryson Canton was third in the 800 (2:00.86) and Ryan Kelly was third in the 5,000 (17:05.20).

Massa's time in the 600 ranks fifth on NIACC's all-time indoor 600 list.

NIACC's Terrence Thomas placed third in the long jump with a leap of 7.24 meters (23 feet, 9 inches).

NIACC's Canton, Massa, Quinton Ellis and Almelien won the distance medley relay in a time of 10:55.80. Martin Luther, the only other team in the event, was second in 12:22.79.

NIACC's Massa, Ellis, Jacob Vais and James placed second in the 4x400-meter relay in a season-best time of 3:27.46.
