MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team swept DMACC on Friday in its season-opening contests at Roosevelt Field.
NIACC (14-19 overall, 7-7 in the ICCAC) won the first game 2-1 and completed the sweep with a come-from-behind 8-6 win in the second game.
In the opener, NIACC scored two runs in the first inning on a two-run home run by George McIntyre, who plated leadoff hitter Cody Haynes, who reached on an error.
DMACC (11-20, 5-8) scored its lone run in the third inning on an RBI single by Blake Crancer.
Zack Johnson, a redshirt freshman right-hander, gained the win for the Trojans. Johnson struck out six, walked two and held the Bears to two hits in five innings.
Redshirt sophomore right-hander Jacob Crissinger pitched the final two innings to gain the save. Crissinger faced the minimum six batters, did not allow a hit and struck out two.
In the second game, NIACC trailed 5-4 after six innings but the Trojans scored four runs in the seventh inning to take an 8-5 lead. DMACC scored a single run in its last at-bat in the ninth inning to close the final gap to two runs.
NIACC's Lincoln Becker hit a two-run home run in the third inning. The Trojans' Henry Mattox drove in four runs and Jack McDonough drove in two runs.
McIntyre had two hits for the Trojans in the second game.
The two teams wrap up the three-game ICCAC series on Sunday at Roosevelt Field. The nine-inning single game is slated to start at 2:30 p.m.
