VINCENNES, Ind. - The NIACC baseball team split a pair of contests Saturday at the Vincennes Invitational.
NIACC (6-6) topped No. 15 (NJCAA Division II) Kellogg CC 15-5 in five innings and dropped a 6-4 decision to Vincennes University.
The win over Kellogg CC was the Trojans first over a rated team since they blanked No. 19 Northeast CC 3-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on April 27, 2024.
Against Kellogg CC, the Trojans scored four runs in the first inning, one run in the third frame and plated 10 runs in the fourth inning.
NIACC pounded out five doubles against Kellogg CC, including two from leadoff hitter Cody Haynes. Lincoln Becker, Payton Fort and Hudson Waldow also had doubles for the Trojans.
Waldow drove in three runs and Becker had two RBIs.
Freshman right-hander Caden Watson (2-0) gained the win for the Trojans. Watson allowed three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and no walks in four innings of work.
In the loss to Vincennes University, the Trailblazers scored three runs in the first and second innings. NIACC scored four runs in its half of the first inning but did not score in its other six at-bats.
Tommy Lyman hit a 2-run home run for the Trojans in the first inning. Henry Mattox collected two of the Trojans' six hits.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday in a doubleheader against DCTC at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, the home of the Minnesota Vikings. Wednesday's non-league twinbill starts at 10 a.m.
