MARSHALLTOWN - The NIACC baseball team pushed its winning streak to five games with a doubleheader sweep of Marshalltown CC on Saturday.
NIACC won the second game of the three-game series 23-17 on Saturday by completing Friday's originally scheduled contest that was suspended due to darkness. The game was suspended with the Trojans leading 22-14 in the top of the ninth inning.
NIACC (12-17 overall, 5-5 in the ICCAC) then completed the sweep with an 8-1 win in the originally scheduled game on Saturday.
In the 23-17 victory by NIACC, the Trojans pounded out a season-high 21 hits to score their 23 runs. The combined 40 runs is the most run in a NIACC baseball game since a March 14, 2018 game where 52 total runs were scored in a 28-24 win by Hutchinson CC over the Trojans.
George McIntyre and Tommy Lyman both hit two home runs for the Trojans. Payton Fort also homered for the Trojans.
It was the first time that two Trojans homered in the same game since John Doty and Kade Peloquin both homered twice against Marshalltown CC in second game of doubleheader on April 7, 2023.
McIntyre was 4 for 6 with six RBIs. McIntyre also hit two home runs in Friday's 17-16 win over the Tigers.
The six RBIs in a game by McIntyre was the fourth time in the Josh Merrill era that a NIACC player has driven in six runs in a game. The other three were Adam Berghult in 2023 and Trey Stocker and Sam Kwapnioski in 2024.
Also for the Trojans, Fort and Cody Haynes both drove in three runs.
In the Trojans' 8-1 win on Saturday, Fort was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Fort also stole two bases. Lincoln Becker, Minchan Kim and Justyn Rivera all collected two hits for the Trojans.
