MILLINGTON, Tenn. - The NIACC baseball team picked up a pair of wins Sunday over Missouri State University-West Plains and Three Rivers CC.
NIACC (2-4 overall) topped MSU-West Plains 3-0 as Caleb Taylor and Ethen Roberts combined for a 1-hit shutout. The Trojans also topped Three Rivers CC 6-5 in nine innings in a scheduled 7-inning contest.
In the win over MSU-West Plains, Taylor (1-1) did not allow a hit or walk in four innings of work to gain the win. Taylor struck out six and the only blemish in the 13 batters he faced was a hit by pitch.
Roberts gained the save by allowing one hit with five strikeouts and two walks in his three innings of work.
The Trojans scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings. The Trojans received a home run from Payton Fort - his first of the season and fifth of his career.
The Trojans stole seven bases in the game against MSU-West Plains, including two each from Fort and Ryan Coffman.
In NIACC's win over Three Rivers CC, Hudson Waldow was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. George McIntyre was also 2 for 4.
The Trojans scored one run in the fourth inning, four runs in the sixth inning and won the game with a single run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Trojans stole eight bases against Three Rivers CC, including three from Cody Haynes. The eight stolen bases in a game is the most for the Trojans since they swiped eight against Minnesota North-Hibbing in the first game of a doubleheader on March 9, 2024.
Zack Johnson (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Trojans by retiring the final two Three Rivers CC batters in the top of the ninth inning. Johnson releived Jacob Crissinger, who allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts and no walks in 3 1/3 innings of work.
NIACC starter Trevor Hamil allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk in four innings of work.
Three Rivers CC swept NIACC (10-0 and 7-6) on Feb. 14 in At Poplar Bluff, Mo.
NIACC returns to action Monday with a pair of games against North Central Missouri at 11 a.m. and MSU-West Plains at 2 p.m.
