No. 11 NIACC women run at regional meet on Sunday
FORT DODGE - The No. 11 (NJCAA Division II) NIACC women's cross country team will compete at the NJCAA Region XI Cross Country Championships on Sunday.
The championships will be held at Lakeside Golf Course and hosted by Iowa Cengtral. The women's 5-kilometer race is slated for noon with the men's 8K race to follow at 12:30 p.m.
The year 2020 marks the first season of NJCAA Division II cross country after all ICCAC teams competed at the NJCAA Division I level, previously. The two divisions will all run at the same time at the 2020 Region XI Championships, with scores separating out and awarded accordingly.
The Hawkeye CC women's team is ranked third and NIACC is ranked 11th. DMACC and Southeastern complete the Division II field.
NIACC's Sarah Bertry is one of the favorites to win the NJCAA Region XI Division II race. Bertry has won two races this season and hasn't placed lower than fourth in any of her five races this season.
On Oct. 16 at the Indian Hills Invitational, Bertry placed second in the 5K race in a time of 18:26, which is the third fastest 5K time in school history.
Others running for the Lady Trojans on Sunday will be Maisie Hoskins, Laura Kern, Ashley Kriener, Whitney Martin and Addy Witt.
Martin placed 15th and earned honorable mentioin all-region honors at last year's regional meet in Ottumwa in a personal best time of 20:42, which is tied for the 23rd best time in school history.
