
NIACC drops league opener to DMACC, 3-2
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to DMACC in its ICCAC opener Wednesday night in the NIACC gym.
DMACC won 25-21, 25-23, 21-25, 20-25, 15-10.
In the fourth game, the Lady Trojans jumped out to a 15-0 lead and held on for the five-point win to force the fifth and deciding game.
"You either win and learn or just learn," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "(Wednesday) we need to learn and move on.
"We will continue to figure out who we are as a team and who we want to be as we continue to take steps together."
NIACC was led by sophomore Kennedy Meister with a career-high 29 kills. She also added 21 digs and two assists.
Meister now has 547 career kills and 714 career digs.
Also for the Lady Trojans, Shelby Heston had 10 kills and eight digs, Bri Powers had 19 digs, Tessa Sienknecht had eight assists and nine digs, Kayla Lentz had 21 digs, Becca Steffen collected 33 assists, 21 digs, seven kills, five ace serves and two blocks and Alexa Loftus had 14 digs.
NIACC (6-3 overall) returns to action Friday and Saturday at the RCTC Yellowjacket Invitational in Rochester, Minn.
