NIACC women stop Lakers, 61-56
ESTHERVILLE - The NIACC women's basketball team is moving on in the regional tournament.
Fifth-seed NIACC stopped fourth-seed Iowa Lakes 61-56 Wednesday in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XI tournament. The two teams had split their two regular season contests with each team winning on their own home court.
NIACC (22-8) received 15 points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks from Nora Francois.
Also for the Trojans, Raven Kinnetz scored 12 points and Jackie Pippett scored 10 points and collected six rebounds. Kourtney Manning scored eight points with eight rebounds, two assists and three steals.
NIACC's Audrey Martinez-Stewart scored six points with six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Iowa Lakes (19-12) was led by Jaeda Whitner with 21 points, six rebounds, four assists and one steal.
NIACC faces No. 1 Kirkwood (30-1) on Saturday in the regional semifinals. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
