NIACC women edge Northeast CC
NORFOLK, Neb. - The NIACC women's basketball team edged Northeast CC 67-62 in an ICCAC contest Saturday afternoon.
NIACC (6-1 overall, 1-1 in ICCAC) was led by freshman Ziyannah Conner with 20 points, nine rebounds, one assist and five steals. The Trojans' Alyssa Hames scored 18 points with eight rebounds and two steals.
Audrey Martinez-Stewart gave the Trojans a 65-62 lead with a pair of free throws with 17 seconds left in the contest.
Hames collected a steal on Northeast CC's next possession. She was fouled and made both of her free throws to extend the NIACC lead to 67-62 to seal the league road victory.
Also for NIACC, Chelsey Holck scored nine points with three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Kourtney Manning scored six points with six rebounds.
NIACC, which led 35-26 at the half, outscored Northeast CC 20-7 in the third quarter. Northeast CC outscored the Trojans 20-15 in the fourth quarter but still came up five points short.
Northeast CC was led by Ashley Hassett with 15 points. Lorna Maxon was next in line for the Hawks with 13 points.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday at Iowa Western in an ICCAC contest in Council Bluffs. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
