NIACC's Mendez is national player of week
MASON CITY – NIACC's Autam Mendez has been selected as the NJCAA Division II national women's basketball player of the week for the week of Feb. 24-March 1.
It is the second time in her career that Mendez has been selected as the national player of the week. She also won the award for the week of Jan. 21-27, 2019.
Last week, Mendez scored 48 points, including 11 3-point goals, with 17 rebounds in the No. 1 Lady Trojans' 120-41 win over Little Priest Tribal College. She also scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in NIACC's 99-70 win over Southwestern.
Against Southwestern, Mendez became the fourth player in school history to score 1,000 career points. She currently ranks fourth on the school's career list with 1,015 career points.
NIACC (29-1) begins NJCAA Region XI tournament play at home Wednesday against Little Priest Tribal College. Game time in the NIACC gym is slated for 5:30 p.m.
