NIACC women fly past Eagles, 85-64
MASON CITY - The battle of the top two teams in the NJCAA Division II women's poll went to top-ranked NIACC.
NIACC, which trailed by 10 points in the first quarter, cruised to a 85-64 victory over No. 2 Kirkwood in an ICCAC contest Saturday afternoon in front of a full house in the NIACC gym.
NIACC, which has won 30 straight home games, improved to 27-1 overall and 14-0 in the ICCAC. Kirkwood (25-3) fell to 12-2 in league play.
NIACC is 12-0 at home this season, was 15-0 at home in 2018-19 and won its final three home games of the 2017-18 season. In the 30-game home winning streak, NIACC has outscored its opponents, 2,915 to 1,914.
NIACC's last home loss was a 70-68 loss to Kirkwood on Feb. 14, 2018.
NIACC owns a two-game lead on Kirkwood with two conference games remaining.
In Saturday's contest, sophomore Autam Mendez scored 20 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Sierra Morrow scored 18 points with 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Also in double figures for the Lady Trojans were Kelcie Hale with 14 points and Sanaa Smith with 13 points. Hale added six assists and three steals.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday at Little Priest Tribal College. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
