
NIACC's Helming earns 2nd team all-region honors
MASON CITY – NIACC's sophomore Wyatt Helming was selected to the ICCAC Division II men's basketball all-region second team Friday.
Helming, who is from Lake Mills, averaged 15.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game to lead the Trojans in both categories.
Helming, a 6-foot-7 forward, scored 460 points in his lone season in a NIACC uniform. The 460 points ranks 41st on the school's single-season scoring list.
Helming collected 257 rebounds in the 2023-24 season, which ranks 22nd on the school's single-season rebounding list.
Helming shot 52.3 percent from the field (169-323) and 75.8 percent from the free-throw line (100-132). The 169 field goals made ranks 49th on the school's single-season list and the 100 free throws is tied for 25th on the school's single-season list.
Helming is the second all-region player for second-year head coach Jeremy Winters. Myles Tucker was a first-team selection for the Trojans in the 2022-23 season.
Regular season champion DMACC, regional tournament champion Ellsworth, Iowa Lakes and Kirkwood all had two players selected to the all-region first team.
DMACC's Angelo Winkel was the region's player of the year and DMACC's Blake Sandquist was the coach of the year.
