NIACC men stop Central CC-Columbus, 75-66
LINCOLN, Neb. - The NIACC men's basketball team topped Central CC-Columbus 75-66 Saturday at the Southeast CC Thanksgiving Classic.
NIACC (5-3 overall) pushed its winning streak to two games. The Trojans topped Link Year Prep Gold 89-68 on Nov. 17 in West Plains, Mo.
Central CC-Columbus led 36-31 at the half, but the Trojans outscored Central CC-Columbus 44-30 in the second 20 minutes to claim the non-league victory.
Freshman Marquel Newsome led the Trojans with 19 points and sophomore Wyatt Helming scored 18 points.
Also for the Trojans, Jordan Brown scored 13 points and Brayden Drea scored eight points.
Helming grabbed 13 rebounds to go with his 18 points. It was Helming's fourth double/double of the season. Newsome had six rebounds, four steals and two assists.
NIACC returns to action Sunday against host Southeast CC. Game time is slated for 5 p.m.
Southeast CC topped NIACC 87-84 at last season's Thanksgiving Classic in Estherville.
