
NIACC upsets No. 12 Iowa Lakes, 83-78
- Helming records double/double (24 points/12 rebounds)
- Drea comes off bench to score 15 points
- Scott, Hackett, Brown all score 9 points
ESTHERVILLE - The NIACC men's basketball team upset No. 12 (NJCAA Division II) Iowa Lakes Monday night in a makeup ICCAC contest.
It was the Trojans' first time winning at Iowa Lakes since they claimed a 83-81 victory on Jan. 12, 2022.
It was also the first time the Trojans have knocked off a rated team since they upset No. 11 Kirkwood 78-71 on Jan. 14, 2023.
In Monday's upset victory over the Lakers, sophomore transfer Wyatt Helming scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. It was Helming's 11th double/double of the season and sixth in ICCAC competition.
Also for the Trojans on Monday, freshman Brayden Drea came off the bench to score 15 points, which matched his career-high, with three rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block.
NIACC's Ra'Mir Scott, Adam Hackett and Jordan Brown all scored nine points.
NIACC (9-10 overall, 3-6 in ICCAC) led 42-39 at the half and outscored the Lakers 41-39 in the second 20 minutes.
Iowa Lakes, which had won three straight contests, fell to 14-5 overall and 6-3 in the league.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday at No. 7 Ellsworth. Game time in Iowa Falls is slated for 7:30 p.m.
