
NIACC's Helming earns ICCAC weekly honor
MASON CITY - NIACC's Wyatt Helming has been selected as the ICCAC Division II men's basketball player of the week for the week of Nov. 20-26.
Helming, a sophomore from Lake Mills, is the first NIACC men's basketball player to win the weekly award since Myles Tucker was the league's player of the week for the week of Jan. 23-29, 2023.
Helming helped lead the Trojans to a pair of wins last weekend at the Southeast CC Thanksgiving Classic in Lincoln, Neb.
Helming scored 18 points with 13 rebounds in the Trojans' 75-66 win over Central CC-Columbus for his fourth double/double of the season. He also scored 15 points with eight rebounds and three blocked shots in NIACC's 90-81 win over Southeast CC.
Helming is averaging 16.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game this season, which ranks second in the ICCAC in both categories. He also leads the league with 19 blocked shots.
NIACC (6-3 overall) opens ICCAC play Saturday at home against No. 5 DMACC. Game time in the NIACC gym is slated for 3 p.m.
