
Helming powers NIACC past Black Hawk College-Moline
MASON CITY - Sophomore transfer Wyatt Helming scored a game-high 33 points and recorded a double/double to lead the NIACC men's basketball team to a 84-72 victory over Black Hawk College-Moline on Saturday at the Konigsmark Klassic.
Helming, who was at Northwestern College last season, scored 20 of his 33 points in the first half as the Trojans opened up a 42-31 lead. Helming also led the Trojans (1-1) with 11 rebounds.
Helming, who prepped at Lake Mills, is the first NIACC player to score 30 points in a game since Myles Tucker scored 38 points against Ellsworth on March 1, 2023. He's also the first NIACC player to record a double/double since Koen Derry scored 11 points with 11 rebounds against Kirkwood on Jan. 14, 2023.
Helming also contributed four blocked shots and two assists in the Trojans' victory.
Helming scored 21 points with eight rebounds in Friday's 91-89 overtime loss to Bryant & Stratton.
Also for the Trojans on Saturday, Omarion Roberts scored 17 points with nine assists and six rebounds. Jordan Brown came off the bench to score 16 points.
