
NIACC men fall to Marshalltown CC, 80-72
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's basketball team dropped an 80-72 decision to Marshalltown CC Wednesday night in a non-league contest in the NIACC gym.
Marshalltown CC (4-10 overall) led 41-25 at the half. NIACC outscored the Tigers 47-39 in the second 20 minutes to trim the final margin of victory for the Tigers to eight points.
Marshalltown CC was led by Angus Ole with 21 points, six rebounds and two steals. Also for the Tigers, Joe Scott scored 17 points and grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds, Mekki Sisk scored 14 points and Michael Barell scored 12 points.
NIACC (7-6 overall) was led by sophomore Wyatt Helming recorded his fifth straight double/double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Helming has eight double/doubles this season.
Also for the Trojans, freshman Marquel Newsome scored 15 points with five rebounds and five assists. Freshman Omarion Roberts was also in double figures for the Trojans with 11 points.
NIACC's Jordan Brown scored nine points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out five assists. Brayden Drea scored nine points, including three 3-point goals, with four assists and three rebounds.
NIACC returns to action Saturday in an ICCAC contest at Northeast CC. Game time in Norfolk, Neb. is slated for 3 p.m.
