No. 14 NIACC women set to play in Dale Howard Classic
IOWA FALLS - The No. 14 NIACC women's basketball team will play a pair of games in Ellsworth's Dale Howard Classic on Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Trojans (2-0) face Little Priest Tribal College at 2 p.m. Friday and take on Lake Land College at noon on Saturday.
NIACC opened the season with a pair of victories Nov. 4-5 at the Konigsmark Klassic. The Lady Trojans knocked off No. 11 Illinois Central 95-76 and stopped Bryant & Stratton-Milwaukee 116-76.
The 116 points against Bryant & Stratton was the seventh time in NIACC coach Todd Ciochetto's three seasons as coach that the Lady Trojans have scored at least 100 points and was the second-highest point total in the Ciochetto era.
It is the fourth straight season that NIACC has started the season 2-0. The Lady Trojans opened the 2015-16 campaign with wins over NDSCS (76-51) and Williston State College (98-77).
NIACC sophomore Courtney Larson was selected as the ICCAC and NJCAA Division II national player of the week for her performance in the Konigsmark Klassic. Larson scored 17 points against Illinois Central and recorded her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds against Bryant & Stratton.
NIACC is averaging 105.5 points per game, which leads NJCAA Division II. The Lady Trojans are third in NJCAA Division II with 30 3-point goals.
Freshman Taylor Laabs averages 18.0 points per game to lead NIACC in scoring. Larson averages 15.5 points per game and Cierra Stanciel averages 13.5 points per game.
Laabs leads the Lady Trojans with eight 3-point goals. Freshman Carly Seely has five 3-point goals and freshman Kelsie Willert has four 3-point goals.
Freshman Hattie Davidson averages 8.5 rebounds to lead the Lady Trojans. Stanciel leads the way with 15 assists and Larson leads with eight steals.
Notes: NIACC coach Todd Ciochetto has a career record of 50-18 ... NIACC topped Lake Land College 87-73 last season at the Konigsmark Klassic ... Larson has 306 career points, 144 career rebounds, 40 career 3-point goals, 75 career assists and 47 career steals.
