ROSEMOUNT, Minn. – Allison Scott finished 10 for 14 at the plate this weekend and provided NIACC with a walkoff single to lift it over Ellsworth 4-3 in the first of two games at the Rosemount Dome tournament Friday. NIACC dropped its final game 7-6 to Iowa Central, which won on a walkoff double.
"It came down to our kids just fighting and battling and really competing. It was awesome," NIACC coach Christi Weiser said. "Even though both games came down to the seventh we didn't do anything to allow the other team back into game. They did it themselves with clutch hitting."
Facing a one-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh against Ellsworth, NIACC put runners on second and third before Scott delivered a single to drive in Kendall Cornick and Katie LaBuda to win the game. Scott finished the game with three hits and three RBIs.
The Lady Trojans watched a five-run lead disappear in their loss against Iowa Central as the Tritons walked off with a bases-loaded double in the bottom of the seventh. Iowa Central had four home runs in the game.
Tricia Notermann homered and drove in three runs for NIACC and Scott had two doubles. Cornick ended the day with four hits.
"The kids just competed at every turn, had great at-bats, did some things really well and the progress we showed from Pitch 1 through the fourth game was huge," Weiser said.
Notes: Notermann has 8 career home runs ... Scott has 61 career hits ... Huberty has a career record of 10-14 ... LaBuda has a career record of 4-10 ... Huberty has 71 career strikeouts.
