Pederson powers NIACC to split with Southwestern

CRESTON — Behind Lexy Pederson's work in the circle and at the plate Saturday in an ICCAC doubleheader at Southwestern, NIACC was able to salvage a split with the Spartans.

NIACC held on to win the opener 6-5 and fell in the nightcap 16-2 in five innings.

Pederson finished 4 for 4 at the plate with a three-run home run and a pair of doubles in the Lady Trojans' win and struck out two and walked five in the circle.

"She squared it up left and right and just had great at-bats," NIACC coach Christi Weiser said. "The great thing was she didn't try to do too much.

"As a pitcher, she did a great job of stranding runners. She didn't give up a hit until the fourth inning and she kept them off balance."

Tricia Notermann doubled and singled, Elise Powers had three hits and Kendall Cornick added a pair of hits for NIACC in the win.

Southwestern plated 10 runs in the opening frame of the nightcap and cruised to a 14-run victory. Cornick had three hits for the Lady Trojans and Allison Scott added a pair of singles.
