NIACC's Pederson is ICCAC pitcher of the week
MASON CITY – NIACC sophomore Lexy Pederson has been selected as the ICCAC pitcher of the week for the week of April 11-17.
Pederson (6-5) was 3-0 last week with wins over Iowa Lakes, Northeast CC and Ellsworth. She struck out 37 batters and allowed two earned runs in 26 innings of work.
Against Iowa Lakes, Pederson tossed a 12-inning shutout in a 1-0 victory over Iowa Lakes on April 13. Pederson struck out a career-high 14 batters in the win over the Lakers.
Pederson, who has a 2.42 earned run average, ranks 14th in NJCAA Division II with 116 strikeouts, which ranks sixth on NIACC's single-season strikeout list.
Pederson has won her last four starts dating back to 5-1 win over Iowa Central on April 9. In her last four starts, Pederson has struck out 12, 14, 13 and 10 batters.
Pederson is the second NIACC softball player to earn ICCAC player of the week honors this season. Sophomore shortstop Allison Scott earned the honor for the week of Feb. 8-14.
NIACC (18-24 overall, 9-13 in the ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday at home against No. 4 Kirkwood.
