FORT DODGE — The NIACC softball team swept Iowa Central 5-1 and 11-8 in ICCAC action on Saturday.
"It was a good day all the way around," NIACC coach Christi Weiser said. "We just played with confidence. We made some mistakes but we didn't left the mistakes affect us."
In the opener, Lexy Pederson struck out 12, allowing six hits in the circle.
"Brittany (Florea) and Lexy worked really well together," Weiser said. "Lexy did a great job keeping their hitters off-balance."
Meanwhile, Allison Scott hit a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning and Elise Powers added her first home run of the season – a 2-run shot in the top of the second inning.
In the nightcap, NIACC (13-18, 4-9) collected 16 hits, including four from Kendall Cornick, while Florea and Allison Scott added two hits apiece. Scott added another home run while Tricia Notermann also cleared the fence for NIACC.
"Tricia went 0 for 3 in the first game with three strikeouts but she was able to stay locked in mentally," said Weiser, whose team hosts No. 6 DMACC in a doubleheader today. "She had three walks in the second game and then came up with a huge home run for us. Up and down the lineup we produced."
