NIACC softball team splits with Iowa Lakes
By The Globe Gazette staff
ESTHERVILLE - Lexy Pederson tossed a two-hit shutout and NIACC salvaged a split Thursday afternoon against Iowa Lakes.
After an 11-2 setback in the opener, Pederson struck out six and the Lady Trojans played flawless defense in a 1-0 victory.
Allison Scott scored the lone run on an RBI single by Tricia Notermann. Scott had a pair of doubles in the opener. Notermann knocked in two in the loss.
"It was just the overall energy of the team," NIACC coach Christi Weiser said. "Lexy and Brittany (Florea) worked well together and our defense was stellar. Lexy did a great job of attacking hitters effectively and let the defense do the work for her."
NIACC is 11-13 overall.
"It was our best win of the season for a variety of reasons," Weiser said. "I feel like we took a big step in that second game in the way we did things."
