NIACC falls to Iowa Central in tourney opener
By The Globe Gazette staff
BOONE — Lexi Korte and Makayla Burt did their part Friday to ensure Iowa Central would be moving on.
Korte, a former standout at Central Springs, struck out four and scattered six hits and Burt's three-run home run in the first inning sparked to Tritons to a 7-1 win over NIACC to open Region XI tournament play.
"We left a pitch a little bit up to her and she's just a great hitter," NIACC coach Christi Weiser said. "We didn't make a mistake against her but we just weren't as precise with her as we should've been.
"And on offense, we didn't string quality at-bats together until late in the game. The ball just wasn't falling out way today and Korte threw well."
Becca Huberty double twice and drove in the lone run for the Lady Trojans, Kendall Cornick picked up a pair of singles and a single in the seventh gave Tricia Notermann the career hits record at NIACC with 117.
NIACC (19-30) plays in an elimination game Sunday at noon vs. Northeast Community College.
