NIACC splits pair at own tournament
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team split a pair of matches at its own tournament on Saturday in the NIACC gym.
The Lady Trojans dropped a 3-0 decision to Marshalltown CC in their opening match. MCC won 29-27, 25-15, 25-20.
NIACC (16-10 overall) topped St. Cloud Tech and CC 3-0 in its second match. The Lady Trojans won 25-14, 25-14, 25-14.
"We wish we would have started the day playing stronger," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said, "but we were able to turn it around and finish playing well together.
"We were able to get some freshmen some good playing time (Saturday) and give them some experience that they really needed. We have a really tough couple of weeks so every positive we need to use and grow to get stronger."
Sophomore Hannah Wagner led the Lady Trojans with 32 kills, 17 digs and three aces serves in the two matches. Freshman Kennedy Meister had 14 kills, 21 digs, five blocks and 14 kills.
Also for the Lady Trojans, Connor Gauch had 16 digs and four assists, Tessa Sienknecht had four kills and three blocks, Ashley Groe had 23 assists, five digs and four ace serves, Kayla Lentz had six digs, Sydney Roush had 20 assists and eight digs, Jamie Brenner had four kills, five digs and six blocks and Braylee Wood had four blocks and two kills.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday in an ICCAC match at Hawkeye CC. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
