NIACC splits pair of matches
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - The NIACC volleyball team opened its season Friday at the Waubonsee CC Invitational.
The Lady Trojans topped Macomb CC 3-0 and dropped a 3-0 decision to Owens CC.
Against Macomb CC, the Lady Trojans won 25-14, 25-15, 25-16.
Owens stopped NIACC 31-29, 26-24, 25-17.
"It was a good day to see what the team could do together," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "We were scrappy when needed and still able to get some heat on the ball when we were out of system.
"The Owen match was a great match up and a true look at level of competition we need compete with. We are proud of their efforts and look forward to another tough day (Saturday)."
Sophomore Hannah Wagner led the Lady Trojans with 24 kills, 24 digs, four ace serves and three blocks. Freshman Kennedy Meister had 20 kills and 31 digs.
Also for the Lady Trojans, sophomore Sydney Roush had 38 assists and 11 digs, Ashley Groe had 26 assists, 17 digs and four ace serves and Sarah Kimberly had 15 kills, four digs and four blocks.
Connor Gauch had 31 digs, Shelby Heston had eight kills, eight digs, three ace serves and two blocks and Jamie Brenner had seven kills and five blocks.
NIACC returns to action Saturday Glen Oaks CC (2:15 p.m.) and No. 12 McHenry County College (5:45 p.m.)
Notes: Wagner now has 302 career kills ... Heston has 231 career kills ... Roush has 837 assists.
