
NIACC's Vanharen earns 1st-team all-region honors
MASON CITY - NIACC freshman Iola Vanharen was selected to the NJCAA Region 11 Division II first-team on Wednesday.
It is the eighth straight season that the NIACC women's soccer team has had at least one first-team all-region pick.
NIACC's Karly Holm was a second-team all-region selection. The Trojans' Aryana Rashidi and Nadia Kaiser were both honorable mention all-region picks.
Vanharen, a forward from Ipswitch, England, scored seven goals and led the Trojans with 10 assists. The 10 assists by Vanharen ranks second on the school's all-time single season list.
Holm, a sophomore forward from Two Harbors, Minn., led the Trojans with 12 goals and had seven assists. Holm, who was a first-team all-region pick as a freshman, is NIACC's career leader in goals scored with 26 and is tied for second on the school's career assist list with 10.
Rashidi, a freshman midfielder from Kevelaer, Germany, scored four goals with six assists.
Kaiser, a freshman keeper from Eagle Grove, made 107 saves with a save percentage of .843.
NIACC finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 6-8-2 and an ICCAC mark of 4-5 under second-year coach Todd Alberts.
Regular season champion Iowa Central had four first-team selections, including the region's player of the year Eden Palkovic. The Tritons' Jordan Sibenaller was the regional coach of the year.
