NIACC's James, Thomas win at Wartburg Select
WAVERLY - The NIACC men's track and field team picked up two victories on Saturday at the Wartburg College Select meet.
NIACC sophomore Tyreese James won the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.49 seconds and sophomore Terrence Thomas won the long jump with a leap of 7.19 meters (23 feet, 7 1/4 inches).
James' time of 10.49 in the 100-meter dash was a personal best and ranks second on the school's all-time 100-meter dash list. James' previous personal best in the 100 was a 10.52 at the Emporia State Relays on March 29, 2025.
Thomas also placed sixth in the 100 in a time of 10.81, which was just off his personal best time of 10.78 at last season's NJCAA Region 11 championships. The Trojans' Quinton Ellis was ninth in the 100 (10.89).
NIACC's Gabe Hemsworth placed third in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 57.05, which ranks third on NIACC's all-time 400-meter hurdles list.
The Trojans' Avery Culhane placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.87 meters (6-1 1/2). Dakota Carlson was fifth in the high jump (5-11 1/2).
NIACC's Colin Rasch was 12th in the shot put with a toss of 12.94 meters (42-5 1/2) and Rodney Ngezimani was 14th with a throw of 12.76 meters (41-10 1/2).
In the discus, NIACC's Marshall Zeine was 18th with a toss of 41.40 meters (135-10).
NIACC returns to action Friday at the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake University.
