NIACC wins 5 events at Hilltop Invite
MOUNT VERNON - The NIACC men's track and field team won five events Saturday at the Cornell College Hilltop Invitational.
NIACC, which placed 5th with 79 points, picked up wins from sophomore Tyreese James in the 200 (22.20 seconds), sophomore Quinton Ellis in the 800 (1:58.93), freshman Dakota Carlson in the high jump (1.85 meters, 6-0 3/4) and sophomore Terrence Thomas in the long jump (7.13 meters, 23-4 3/4).
The Trojans also won the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:27.78. The Trojans ran Avery Culhane, Jewel Jackson, Carlson and Ellis.
James' time in the 200 was a personal best and ranks second on the school's all-time indoor 200-meter dash list. James' previous personal best was 22.39 at the SDSU Indoor Classic on Feb. 10, 2024.
Also for the Trojans, James was second in the 60-meter dash in a time of 6.85. Thomas was third in the 60 (6.97).
NIACC freshman Gabe Hemsworth was fourth in the 400 in a time of 54.03.
Culhane was seventh in the high jump with a leap of 1.75 meters (5-8 3/4) and 10th in the long jump (5.73 meters/18-9 3/4).
NIACC's Rodney Ngezimani was sixth in the shot put with a toss of 13.09 meters (42-11 1/2) and eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.56 meters (44-6).
Ngezimani's toss of 13.56 in the weight throw ranks third on the school's indoor weight throw list. Ngezimani's previous best toss in the weight throw was 12.39 meters last week at the Chelsey M Henkenius Invitational.
NIACC returns to action Feb. 1 at the Minnesota State-Mankato's Mark Schuck Open.
