NIACC's Thomas sets 2 school marks
WAVERLY - NIACC sophomore Terrence Thomas won two events and set two school and meet records Saturday at the Wartburg College Chelsey M Henkenius Invitational.
Thomas won the long jump with a leap of 7.42 meters (24 feet, 4 1/4 inches) and claimed the triple jump title with a jump of 14.51 meters (47-7 1-4). Thomas broke his own previous school records in the long jump (7.31 meters at the NJCAA Region 11 meet on Feb. 17, 2024) and the triple jump (14.32 meters at the UNI Jack Jennett Invitational on Jan. 19, 2024).
Thomas, who is from Antigua and Barbuda, also placed fourth in the 60-meter dash in a time of 6.93 seconds, which ranks fourth on NIACC's all-time 60-meter dash list.
NIACC sophomore Tyreese James won the 60-meter dash in a personal-best time of 6.83 seconds, which was a meet record. James' previous best time in the 60 was 6.98 at last season's inoor regional meet on Feb. 16, 2024.
James, who is from Tortola, British Virgin Islands, also won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.43.
NIACC sophomore Quinton Ellis won the 600-meter dash in a time of 1:22.21, which ranks fourth on the school's indoor 600 list.
NIACC freshman Dakota Carlson placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.90 meters (6-2- 3/4), which is tied for fourth on the school's indoor high jump list. Freshman Avery Culhane was eighth in the high jump with a leap of 6-0 3/4. which is 10th on the school's indoor high jump list.
NIACC's Gabe Hemsworth was fourth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 53.28.
NIACC's Octavio Padilla was fifth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:15.13. The Trojans' Jensen Temple-Brown was seventh (2:16.86).
In the shot put, NIACC's Rodney Ngezimani was seventh with a toss of 13.25 meters (43-5 3/4), which ranks fifth on the school's indoor shot put list. The Trojans' Colin Rasch was eighth with a toss of 12.91 meters (42-4 1-4), which is seventh on the school's indoor shot put list and Marshal Zeien was ninth with a toss of 12.42 meters (40-9), which is eighth on the school's indoor shot put list.
In the weight throw, Rasch placed fifth with a toss of 12.80 meters (42-0), whihc ranks fifth on the school's indoor weight throw list. Ngezimani was 10th with a toss of 12.39 meters (40-7 3/4).
NIACC returns to action Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Cornell College Invitational in Mount Vernon.
