DeLong earns medalist honors, Trojans place 2nd
ANKENY - The NIACC women's golf team placed second at the Grand View University Fall Invitational on Tuesday with rounds of 328-352 - 680 and freshman Meghan DeLong earned individual medalist honors with rounds of 70-76 - 146 at the Otter Creek Golf Course.
Host Grand View was the team champion with rounds of 308-318 - 626. DMACC was third with a 343-351 - 694.
"It was a great way for the women to end the fall season," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "The course played tougher (Tuesday) with some difficult pin placements and the wind and cold certainly played a role in scores going a little higher (Tuesday). It was great to see the team hold our second place position and, of course, awesome to have Meghan with for the sixth time this fall."
DeLong, who prepped at Clear Lake, won individual medalist honors for the sixth time in eight events this fall. Grand View's Jaya West was the runner-up medalist with a 76-75 - 151. The Vikings' Kate Rahfeldt (76-78 - 154) and Megan Riesselman (74-80 - 154) tied for third.
NIACC's Paige Danger tied for 12th with a 83-91 - 174. The Trojans' Addy Boell was 14th with a 83-92 - 175, Danielle Randick tied for 23rd with a 92-93 - 185 and Ashlyn Berven shot 97-98 - 195.
NIACC's Kaiya Holten shot 110-117 - 227.
"I really feel that everyone improved throughout the fall season," Frenz said, "and we're really excited to seee where this takes us this spring. I like the makeup of this team and we'll be adding Kenedee Frayne this spring."
