NIACC's DeLong places 4th at Iowa Central Fall Kickoff
FORT DODGE - NIACC freshman Meghan DeLong placed fourth in the individual medalist competition Monday at the Iowa Central Fall Kickoff at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
Iowa Central's Jenna Kramer was the meet medalist with a 78. Iowa Central's Ivanna Becerra-Diaz and Murray State's Gabby Hack tied for second with a pair of 81s.
"Meghan DeLong played well (Monday) but had a couple of bad breaks that put her in a position that she had to take her punishment and get the best score she could," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "She really battled all day."
NIACC tied for fourth with a team score of 368. Iowa Central was the team champion with a 333 and DMACC and Murray State (Oklahoma) tied for seconds at 353.
"This was a good learning experience for the team (Monday)," Frenz said. "Being the first collegiate tournament for all of them but one, it was good to get some of the jitters out and gives us something to shoot for and continue to improve."
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Paige Danger shot a career-best round of 90. freshman Ashlyn Berven shot 94, freshman Danielle Randick shot 102, freshman Addy Boell shot 105 and freshman Kaiya Holten shot 116.
Danger's previous career best was a 91 at the NJCAA Plains District Tournament on April 30, 2024.
"Paige Danger played well (Monday) and had one of her best rounds as a Trojan," Frenz said. "She knows she can get better as she ended with four straight double bogeys but also threw in a pair of very nice birdies."
NIACC returns to action Tuesday at the NIACC Fall Invitational at Highland Park Golf Course.
"We'll put in a good week of practice and get ready four out home meet," Frenz said.
Team standings - Iowa Central 333, DMACC 353, Murray State (Oklahoma) 353, NIACC 368, Simpson College 368, Iowa Lakes 384.
