NIACC's DeLong wins BVU Fall Invite in one-hole playoff
STORM LAKE - What a week it was for NIACC freshman Meghan DeLong.
DeLong, who won the NIACC Fall Invitational on Tuesday, claimed the Buena Vista University Fall Invitational Sunday in a one-hole playoff over Waldorf University's Amanda Karvala. In the playoff, DeLong recorded a par on the par 4 hole to win her second collegiate title in a span of six days.
DeLong, who shot a 78 Saturday and trailed Karvala by three shots after the first 18 holes, shot a 77 on Sunday while Karvala recorded a round of 80 as they both tied with a two-round total of 155.
"It was another good performance for Meghan DeLong this weekend," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "She really has showed that she has the mental toughness to battle through some adversity during a round and keep her head in the game.
"She showed that mental toughness by getting herself into a playoff and then coming through with three quality shots and burying about an 18 foot putt for par to come away with the victory."
Also for the Trojans. sophomore Paige Danger shot 93-91 - 184, freshman Addy Boell shot 90-97 - 187, freshman Ashlyn Berven shot 103-101 - 204 and freshman Danielle Randick shot 98-109 - 207.
"I saw some good things from the others throughout the weekend," Frenz said, "but also a number of things to work on this week."
NIACC placed 10th in the team standings with a 359-366 - 725. Central College was the team champion with rounds of 325-334 - 659 and Waldorf University was second with rounds of 333-336 - 669.
NIACC returns to action Friday at DMACC's Jim Currell Invitational at the Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone.
