
NIACC women face Iowa Lakes in tourney quarterfinals
SPENCER - The NIACC women's soccer team opens quarterfinal round play in the NJCAA Region 11 Division II tournament against Iowa Lakes at 3 p.m. Saturday.
NIACC (7-8 overall) earned the fifth-seed for the regional tourament. Iowa Lakes (8-4-2) is the fourth-seed in the 9-team regional tournament bracket.
The Trojans are seeking their fourth straight opening-round win in the regional tournament. The Trojans topped Scott CC 8-0 in the first round of the 2022 regional tournament, won 0-0 and 7-6 on penalty kicks over Scott CC in the 2021 fall regional tournament and edged DCTC 2-1 in the first round of the 2021 spring regional tournament.
The seven wins by the Trojans, under first-year coach Todd Alberts, is tied for the single-season school record for wins. n the 2021 spring season, the Trojans were 7-8 and the Trojans were 7-8-2 in the 2022 season.
Iowa Lakes topped NIACC twice during the regular season. The Lakers won 9-0 in a non-league contest on Sept. 6 in Mason City and the Lakers stopped the Trojans 3-1 in a league contest on Oct. 11 in Spencer.
The winner of Saturday's NIACC/Iowa Lakes contest faces top-seed Northeast CC, No. 8 seed Scott CC or No. 9 seed Marshalltown CC in the regional tournament semifinals on Tuesday at the site of the highest remaining seed.
