
Alberts takes over as NIACC women's soccer coach
MASON CITY - Todd Alberts is the new NIACC women's soccer head coach.
Alberts replaces Gannon Harsma, who is now NIACC men's head soccer coach and the director of soccer operations. Harsma served as the NIACC head women's soccer coach in 2021-22 and accumulated a record of 10-19-3.
Alberts was the head women's soccer coach at Scott CC from 2018-22. He also was an assistant coach for the Davenport Central boys soccer team in 2020 and was the Quad City Rush of the Women's Premier Soccer League assistant/goalkeeper coach in 2022.
The NIACC women's team was 7-8-2 in the 2022 season, which tied the school record for wins in a season. In the 2021 spring season, the NIACC women were 7-8 with Harsma as the goalkeeper coach.
In the 2022 season, the NIACC women topped Scott CC 8-0 in the opening round of the NJCAA Region 11 Division II tournament before falling 3-0 to Hawkeye CC in the regional tournament semifinals.
Six NIACC players earned all-region honors in Harsma's 2022 season as head coach of the NIACC women's squad. Earning all-region honors for the Trojans were Brianna Marchand (first-team), Jette Busche (first-team), Amalia Briseno (second-team), Jaya Soor (second-team), Valerie Nelson (honorable mention) and Jada Westover (honorable mention)
In the fall 2021 season, NIACC was 3-11-1 overall and 1-8-1 in the ICCAC Division II. The Trojans topped Scott CC 1-0 (7-6 on penalty kicks) in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XI Division II tournament.
Four NIACC players earned all-region honors in Harsma's initial season as head coach in the 2021 campaign. Earning all-region honors were Busche (first-team), Gabriella Rivera (second-team), Marchand (honorable mention) and Soor (honorable mention)
