MASON CITY - The NIACC men's soccer team opened its season with a 4-0 non-conference victory over Iowa Central Thursday afternoon on the NIACC campus.
NIACC led 1-0 at the half and outscored the Tritons 3-0 in the second 45 minutes.
NIACC's win over Iowa Central was the Trojans' first win over the Tritons since a 4-3 overtime victory in 2016. The two teams tied 2-2 in overtime in the 2023 season.
It is the second straight season that the Trojans have won their season opener. NIACC topped Lake Superior College 4-2 in the 2023 season opener.
Matias Campos scored the Trojans' first goal on an assist from Pablo Salas in the 26th minute.
In the second half, the Trojans received a goal from Salas on an assist from Randolph Quiroz. Maxi Torres scored on a penalty kick and Elia Salvatore Antonini scored on a free kick.
The Trojans received a shutout in goal from sophomore keeper Edoardo Allesadrini. It was the Trojans' first shutout since they blanked Scott CC 17-0 on Oct. 9, 2023.
NIACC returns to action at 8 p.m. Friday in a non-league match against South Suburan College in Fort Dodge.
