NIACC's Berger ties for 3rd at Iowa Central Invite
FORT DODGE - NIACC sophomore Bennett Berger tied for third place in the individual medalist competition Saturday at the Iowa Central Spring Invitational at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
Berger, who is from Lake Mills, shot round of 71-74 - 145 in the two-day, 36-hole tournament. Iowa Central's Bailey Doe was the individual medalist with rounds of 69-73 - 142.
NIACC freshman Garrett Ham, who is also from Lake Mills, tied for 17th with rounds of 73-79 - 152.
"Bennett and Garrett are very disappointed in not pulling off the individual victory (Saturday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "They were both battling for the top spot all day long.
"Unfortunately, on the last couple of holes for both of them they lost the momentum they had gained. Berger had a lost ball penalty and Ham hit one out of of bounds. I love their aggressive play and desire each and every time they tee it up to compete."
NIACC placed seventh in the overall team standings with rounds of 308-322 - 630. Southeast CC (Neb.) was the team champion with rounds of 285-296 - 581 and host Iowa Central was second with a 292-304 - 596.
Also for the Trojans, freshman Ashtin Willms shot 82-82 - 164, freshman Drew DeGabriele shot 82-87 - 169 and freshman Ian Roske shot 85-88 - 173. NIACC's Gavin Anderson, playing as an individual, shot 86-88 - 174.
