Birdsell leads Trojans at Redtail Classic
DIKE - Sophomore Tommy Birdsell led the NIACC men's golf team with a round of 78 Friday at the Hawkeye CC Redtali Classic at the Fox Ridge Golf Course.
Also for the Trojans, who shot 323 as a team, freshman Garrett Ham shot 80, Drew DeGabriele shot 82, Ashtin Willms shot 83 and Ian Roske shot 85.
"We just simply didn't have it (Friday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "No one played well, however, the course was playing long (Friday) and all the scores were a little higher than normal.
"It was good to see Tommy Birdsell play pretty well. He was struggling with his putter a bit but the last two tournaments, he's played much better after about a week and a half of not striking the ball well."
Hawkeye CC won the tournament with a round of 308. The Redtails' Kaeden Anderson was the individual medalist with a round of 76.
NIACC's Sam Van Brocklin shot a round of 80. Also for the Trojans, Brady Nygren shot 81 and Gavin Anderson shot 86.
NIACC returns to action Friday, Oct. 11 at the Quad Cup in Boone against host DMACC, Iowa Central and Iowa Lakes.
"We'll get after it next week in practice as we prepare for the Quad Cup," Frenz said.
Team standings - Hawkeye CC 308, Hawkeye CC B 318, Hawkeye CC C 319, NIACC 323.
